The Chief Tax Officer will be responsible for leading all areas of the tax team for the life insurance business. This will require the management of a team of 4 other individuals reporting to the Chief Financial Officer.
This is a highly visible role that requires both hands on effort and oversight of the greater team within the tax department.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategic direction and operations of the Tax Department within the company.
- Develop, implement, and manage tax strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance and support to the executive team on tax-related matters, including advising on financial implications of business decisions.
- Coordinate and collaborate with external auditors, tax authorities, and other stakeholders to address tax-related queries and concerns.
- Stay updated with current tax laws and regulations to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of tax returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
- Manage and lead a team of tax professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback
- Preparation of all required income tax returns
- Financial Statement income tax provisions and disclosures
- Preparation of federal and state tax compliance
- Collaborate with various accounting and finance teams internally on all tax related requirements
- Implementation of new tax systems or requirements as needed
Key Skills:
- Strong expertise in Life Insurance Tax and US GAAP reporting including ASC 740, STAT, and federal / state compliance
- Proven experience in leading and managing a tax department in the insurance industry.
- Excellent knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to analyze complex tax issues and provide strategic recommendations.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong leadership abilities to guide and inspire a team towards achieving organizational goals.
- Detail-oriented mindset with exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- CPA or MBA/Masters preferred
