Job Opportunity: Assistant Controller
Location: Remote or Hybrid
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our growing team in the Property and Casualty (P&C) Insurance sector. This pivotal role will provide oversight and leadership for the accounting team while ensuring accurate financial reporting in compliance with US-GAAP. As an integral part of the finance department, you will work closely with the VP Controller and C-Suite executives to drive the organization's financial health and support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Prepare and review US-GAAP financial statements and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the preparation of financial reports for senior management, including variance analysis and key performance metrics.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial information is complete and accurate.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a growing accounting team while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and compliance.
- Assist with annual audits, providing necessary documentation and working closely with external auditors.
- Support the VP Controller and C-Suite executives in ad-hoc financial analyses and strategic initiatives.
- Drive process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting functions.
- Ensure the timely preparation of tax filings and regulatory reports in accordance with deadlines.
Qualifications:
- 8-10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role within the insurance or financial services industry.
- Strong understanding of US-GAAP and financial reporting standards, preferably within the Property & Casualty insurance sector.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- CPA preferred; additional certifications a plus.
- Experience with public accounting and exposure to audits is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively present financial data to senior executives.
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities, with a hands-on approach to managing the day-to-day operations.
- Highly proficient in accounting software and MS Excel; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
